Wisconsin Senate Democrats Run Away From Their Responsibility

With a vote pending in Madison Wisconsin taking on the entrenched interests of the teachers union Wisconsin Senate Democrats run away. They have been found though. All 14 of them, holed up in a hotel in Rockford Ill.

Channel 3000 reports from Madison~

No Democrats were present at the start of the state Senate session shortly after 11 a.m. to vote on a bill stripping public employees of collective bargaining rights. The Democratic members are currently out of state, WISC-TV reported.

The absent lawmakers have been found in a Rockford, Ill., hotel on Thursday, according to a Rockford TV station. WTVO-TV has interviewed some of the legislators.

The Senate's Republican majority sought to convene on Thursday to pass Gov. Scott Walker's union bill. The Democrats' move out of state means the Senate can't act at this point.

Now, police officers are looking for the lawmakers who were ordered to attend a vote. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said law enforcement officers were searching for them.

Earlier Thursday, state Sen. Jon Erpenbach said the group of 14 Democratic lawmakers are boycotting the vote. They said they want to force negotiations over the Republican-backed bill. Erpenbach told The Associated Press that he and his colleagues had left Wisconsin, but he wouldn't say where.

He said the plan is to slow down the bill because it's "tearing the state apart."

"We're not in Wisconsin. We decided this morning in a caucus and all 14 of us were unanimous in the decision, that in order to really focus down, this was the only option we had," Erpenbach said.

Senate Republicans can't vote on the bill unless at least one Democrat is present. Police could be dispatched to retrieve them, but it was unclear if they would have the authority to cross state lines.

Walker issued a press release on Thursday afternoon calling on the missing lawmakers to return.

Run away, the killer bunny has returned!

  1. fIRE THE BUMS scvott's plan is working already Jobs are opening up in Wisconsin, to fill 14 legislators seats of politicians chirking thier jobs. Due to Cowards unwilling to vote up or down on an important issue. Susch as Unions forcing people to join thier unions and use thier dues fro thier own gains. As well to vote for svaing jobs of current teachers.
The teacher are not the one overpaid the Administrators and Union Leadership is overpaid. And if the dues are given back to the Teachers they can afford to pay for thier own Health benifits and relive the private sector taxpayers.

I thought this was a great idea, a bunch of the professors I need at my university are talking about leaving to go to a non-uw school so they don't have to deal with Walkers bullshit. I f*cking need them. I hate Walker. BE A LITTLE NEGOTIABLE YOU STUPID DICTATOR!

That is called a personal attack. You have also succeeded in making yourself look uneducated. First of all, you started out your argument with two fallacies by attacking the posters and the one's nephew. Second, you used all caps and peon language. Third, you said you hate Walker. Hate is a very strong word and when debating, if you let your emotions get ahold of you, your argument become invalid if only for the reason that you have no self-control.

I must say that the Representatives that have fled to Rockford are being quite childish by leaving their responsibilities and not facing opposition head on. That is why I don't respect them, because they are cowards.

  5. Just curious about all the fraudulent doctor's excuses used to collect sick-pay by state employees. Thousands of these fraudulent excuses will amount to hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of dollars ripped of from the WI taxpayer. This is a great example to set for our children / Set by their Doctors, Teachers, firefighters and law enforcement. I had to sit my children down and explain to them that this is very wrong and not to take the side of a thief no matter what his or her opinion. Oh and the guy with the Nephew in Iraq, I will pray for him to come home safe and sound.
