Huntsman and Pence for President? You've got to be Kidding Me

Could the serious 2012 contenders please stand?

Some folks in the media are actually suggesting Jon Huntsman for the 2012 Republican nomination, while RedState, one of the most influential political blogs on the internet, practically endorsed Mike Pence yesterday afternoon. The only thing left is for Senator Olympia Snowe to run for the Presidency. I couldn't imagine another unrealistic candidacy at this time, nor do I want to.

I am not anti-dark horse candidates (I supported Sarah Palin for the 2008 GOP Vice-Presidential nomination in July '08), but I am for realistic candidates being touted. Mitt Romney, John Thune, and other candidates are almost guaranteed to run for President in 2012 - even Mayor Giuliani could potentially run in 2012.

However, candidates to the left of Joe Manchin (Huntsman), or too determined for another office (Pence) are not prime contenders for the 2012 Republican nomination. Neither will run, unless forced by eager supporters, and neither have a realistic path towards victory. Huntsman is entangled with Obama and Pence is entangled with history. Could we please focus our attention on those actually willing to run and to win?
Pence
I know that the next fourteen months are going to be difficult for Conservatives and Republicans alike. As everyone will be touting their preferred candidate for the highest office in the land. That is something we just cannot allow to happen - Republicans must be united behind one candidate during the Primaries, and we must spend the next fourteen months finding that perfect unity candidate.

Enough is enough.

Senator McCain did not even win 50% of the Republican Primary vote in 2008, and if the current course of politics is not altered soon - our nominee next year could fail to reach 40% of the overall vote. I am willing to foresake my favored candidate for the sake of my party. Enough of the Huntsman talk, enough of the Pence talk, and enough of the horse trading. Let us talk like men and join behind one man to lead our cause against Barack Obama.

What say you?
